The aims of palliative care are far more than just offering comfort during one’s final days and providing relief from physical and psychological pain. It provides therapeutic and spiritual services through rehabilitating people who otherwise would be incapacitated for the rest of their lives. It is a practice that increases the quality of life of the patients and their families coping with life-threatening conditions and offers recovery from distress by early detection and impeccable evaluation and treatment of pain and other physical, psychosocial and spiritual difficulties. Many people who need palliative treatment are cared for by their families and friends. However this is not always possible as the family may not be able to provide the needed services as they may not have the skills and resources needed. The trained staff of Alpha palliative care provides holistic palliative care that provides much needed support at the right time and right place to the family of the patients. All the services are rendered to the patients totally free of any charges. Alpha Palliative Care is a community based non-government organization (NGO) dedicated to palliative care since 2005 and is the largest Home-Based Palliative Care network with 18 centers based in Kerala, India.
